Whale Bone Swing

The Eskimos of the Bering Sea coast find many uses for the bones of the great bowhead whale, among them: swings, fish and meat-drying racks, posts for radio antennas, umiak racks, and grave markers. At Gambell, on St. Lawrence Island, I once saw a fresh whale bone with about forty pounds of meat still attached used as a tether for a very happy husky.
